HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/ SUSTO

* Providing the A's to the 5 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Q's today is Susto , a music-maker out of South Carolina — AND — providing the Q’s to Susto, in a new collaboration thing, is Cole from smallsongs, who recently recorded a lovely live session with Susto at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado!

#1 - WHAT IS THE ONE ALBUM (OR EP OR SONG) THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VERY NEXT MUSICAL THING THAT EVERYONE PRESSES PLAY ON THE NEXT TIME THEY FIND THEMSELVES THINKING “WHAT SHOULD I LISTEN TO NOW”?

Bella White’s album ‘Just Like Leaving’ if you haven’t gotten into this one yet, i highly recommend it!

#2 - WHAT IS THE ONE MOVIE OR TV SHOW THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE NEXT IN EVERYBODY’S NETFLIX QUEUE (OK, DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NETFLIX, WE’RE ALL INTERNET ADULTS HERE AND KNOW HOW TO FIND ANYTHING ONLINE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)?

Not sure if it’ll be everyone’s taste or not, but my fiancé and I just finished watching the series Outlander…and I just wish there was more of it. It’s an engaging mixture of historical fiction and magical realism. Warning though, it can get pretty brutal.

#3. I (AND BY “I” I MEAN “THE PERSON THAT IS READING THIS”) AM GOING TO THE LOCAL BOOK STORE (OK, MAYBE THE LOCAL LIBRARY FIRST) TO FIND THE VERY NEXT BOOK THAT I WILL BE PUTTING SOME EXTREMELY VALUABLE ‘ME-TIME' ASIDE FOR. WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU GET, IF YOU WERE ME (AND, I SUPPOSE, YOU HADN’T ALREADY READ WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SUGGEST)?

Too hard to pick just one here, so i’ll just mention what I’m currently reading & enjoying… ‘The Log from the Sea of Cortez’ by John Steinbeck.

I’ve been making a pilgrimage down to the Baja Peninsula every January for the last 6 years, so I’ve spent some time around the Sea of Cortez, but just recently found this book, and it really speaks to the nerdy amateur adventurer in me.

#4 - WHAT IS THE ONE WEBSITE (OR JUST ANY OLD INTERNET THING: APP, GIF, SERVICE, WHATEVER) THAT YOU WOULD GET REALLY DOWN IN THE DUMPS ABOUT IF IT WERE TO SUDDENLY GO AWAY?

Google Maps & Google Flights… I do so much traveling, these sites/apps are essential. Also, I took a Geography class over the pandemic, and learned all kinds of new ways to use GMaps, which I was totally unaware of before.

Runner up here too would be the Alltrails App, great for finding hikes or walks anywhere when we’re on the road.

#5 - AND FINALLY… PLEASE GIVE ONE COMPLETELY UNAIDED RECOMMENDATION THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD START DOING / USING / WATCHING / EATING / THINKING / QUITTING / ETC-ING TO MAKE THEIR LIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE BETTER AND/OR BEARABLE.

If you live near any mountain rivers, go find a safe place to cold plunge in them. I moved to the Appalachian mountains this year and spending time submerged in icy cold streams has become my new favorite pastime.

OK folks, there you have it. Things that Susto thinks you should consider incorporating into your day/life. Before you log off and go check Google Maps for the nearest stream to jump in, make sure to follow Susto on the Facebook / Instagram / Twitter and then also give a gander to the session that Susto recently recorded with smallsongs at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado…

…and if you’re liking what you’re hearing, go do some further susto-flavoured exploring over on the Bandcamp / Spotify AND THEN definitely also go give smallsongs a follow on the Youtube and Instagram, as this lovely session is just one of many, MANY, more!
